Broken Rear Window
Ok, well the window isn't actually broken. Rather, it's more of a problem of the window no longer going up and down automatically.

My Focus has eletronic windows, and for some reason, the mechanism that connects to the rear passenger side window has broken free from the window itself. When I push the switch to lower the window, I can hear the mechanism lowering, but the window simply stays in place, until I give it a nudge to drop down into the door. The window is basically floating free in the door though. I can grab it, and lift it simply. When I push the switch to put the window up, the window does go up, but only because the mechanism is pushing on it from beneath, and the window has nowhere else to go.

I was hopong I could fix this myself, and actually had the entire interior door panel off, only to realize the window is in the door itself. I'm not sure i can get in there to even do anything to it.

So, any suggestions on what to do about it? Should I take it to the dealer, or my mechanic, and what do you suppose the cost might be?

sounds like the window clamps are loose and the window came out? if i remember correctly there are 2 clamps and 1 screw in each one that holds the window to the bracket.

Damn, that's what I thought.

Any ideas on how to actually get to it? I'm assuming I might just have to remove the entire exterior panel, or even the door itself?

no you should just be able to remove the interior panel and you can roll the window up/down untill you see the bracket where it clamps onto the window. you can then hold the window and slide it back into the clamps and tighten them back up.

hope that helps

Hmm, you mean the interior metal panal? I removed the interior plastic panel, and saw nothing but another sheet of metal. So I'm guessing it's possible to remove that as well then?

I find there is a plastic bracket, which I would call a transit, which connects to the glass via a clamp that goes thru a hole in the glass. This on my '01 se wagon. I can't figure out how to release the clamp from the glass in order to remove the power unit. Something broke off the clamp. there is something near the top of the unit bent and the cable is off its guides. any advice?

power window kaput, '01 se
Hoping I have reached the right forum for this. My 2001 se wagon's rear pass. power
window broke something inside. I can't figure how to release the glass from the transit on the power unit. Looks like maybe a job for a special tool but impossible to see exactly how to release the plastic pin that goes thru the glass. The cable came off the guides and something near the top of the unit appears bent. Apparently easy enuf to remove the whole power unit if you can release the glass. Gotta get it out to inspect before looking for parts! I did find a small piece of plastic inside the door that looks like it broke off the bracket that guides the part that holds the glass. Meanwhile have a small clamp applied to hold the window up. Any way to get some kind of a pictorial guide?
