What do you call it/where to get it

When I was changing the valve cover gasket on my 2004 ZX3 2.3L PZEV, I lost a plastic part that was jammed over one of the valve cover bolts on the passenger side, under the coolant expansion tank. It looked kind of like a heat shield in shape, but it was plastic and there wasn't anything electrical passing by, so I couldn't figure out what it was for. Now my new coolant expansion tank is kind of sagging, and I realize what that piece was for - to support that side of the expansion tank and/or protect it from the heat of the engine.

What do I call this thing in order to search for it? Where can I find a part number for it? Should I just take a trip down to the Ford dealership and describe it and hope they can find the part?

Thanks,

Rebeccah

Better description might help, nothing goes from the valve cover area to under the coolant reservoir.

It's not very large, it's made of plastic, kind of Tee-shaped except the top of the Tee is curved to follow the contour of the edge of the expansion tank, like the bottom 1/3 of a tube maybe 1" in diameter; and the stem of the Tee has a little tab with a perforation that slides over the valve cover bolt. That perforation was a very snug fit, making it difficult to slide off the bolt, and when it came off, it popped out very quickly and disappeared into the bowels of the engine compartment.

It sounds like you are describing one of the wire holder items that pops onto the valve cover bolts.

The question comes because the coolant tank is over on the inner fender, and since the engine MOVES relative to the fender there is no direct connection of any part between them (other than the engine mount on that side).

Yes, it goes over the valve cover bolt like those wire holder thingies, but it's off-white in color rather than black, it doesn't have a stop on the end like they do, there are no wires nearby, and the top of the Tee is like 3" long. It doesn't attach to the expansion tank, it just comes up to right below it.

Nothing like that on mine ('04 duratec).

Tank comes close to the valve cover as it extends over the engine mount, only thing off the end of the valve cover is a wire loom held by metal/rubber clips at the corners of the valve cover.

Mine was definitely hanging off that center end bolt. Can you post a picture of what you have? I can't post a picture of mine, because it's lost. :-(

Similar, that's a picture of a later version with plastic valve cover instead of aluminum and it shows a black plastic wire holder all along the area you mention but on top of the valve cover.

Still a duratec (2.0 in this case) with the 4 separate coils, finger there points to a wire connector in the same place as mine.

Yeah, I've got that big wire connector, too. I can't find any pictures that look like mine at the passenger end of the valve cover. I probably have some one-off contraption that they decided didn't really do what they wanted it to, so they replaced it with something else later in 2004.
