Exclamation PLEASE HELP!! New Speedo, Wrong Odometer!

My name is Aaron and I drive a 2000 focus LX. I've been doing several upgrades in the car and got a speedo with a tach on it. I put the new piece in and discovered that it has nearly 50,000 MILES MORE than my old one. Why is the data for the milage stored in the speedo? I need to know if I can go to a ford dealer or someone else for help.

Thanks in advance,
Onehandeddrummer

You can write down the difference for reference & save the old one for proof. Did that for my swap.

Most Dealers won't do that to avoid any possibility of "tampering" complaints. Even ordering a replacement needs the current mileage proven so the replacement can be set before you get it.

Thanks so much. I figured I could do something like that. I just had my fingers crossed that they would help me out. Maybe not.

If anyone else has anything to say please do!! Trying not to break the law.

P.S. What state are you in and did you go to your licensing agency?

Didn't want to get your hopes up, it's a common question.

Stored in the Speedo is prob. historical - mechanical ones naturally did it that way.
