Tinting Taillights - Few Questions

A few questions I have about tinting tail lights:

A) Is it legal to tint ONLY the red portion slightly and leave the reverse go untinted? By slightly, I'm saying 70%?

B) What is the best way to tint? Spray or Film?

C) What is the best product for the method to use?

D) Is there any How-To's here? I didn't see anything in the How-To Archive, but will continue to look.

I'm in PA and I know they "say" the state law for windows is 70%. My windows aren't tinted (yet) but was wondering about taillights.

Thanks.

Edited to change tint percentage of taillights that I want. Sorry

As for the law, you will need to read your PA code to figure out if your tinted tail lights will still meet visibility/reflectivity code:
http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/06...5/s175.66.html

The best results will be from spraying your tail lights with a tint such as VHT Nite Shade or similar product doing light coats until your darkness level is reached. If you want something that is easily reversible, then try tint film.

How-To: VHT Niteshades Tails
How-To Cling Tint Exterior Lights

Of course tinting your braking lights/reflectors can make it more difficult for others to see you stopped or slowing down. So know that going into it...not saying you will have an issue with 70% but something to think about. Safety first

Thanks for your reply!

I would definitely not go dark at all. All I intend on doing is to take it down slightly. These are so red that it bothers me. I've done some research and have read a few times that they need to be visible from 1000 feet when driving. The last thing I want to do is cause an accident, of course. ;)

I dunno about other jurisdictions, but in Saskatchewan, it IS illegal, but never enforced unless some other issues come up, then it is piggybacked onto the fines.

Yeah. I read up and know that my lights MUST be visible from 1000 ft away. But even then, it can be a means to be stopped for other fines. Is it worth it...? Probably not. I only wanted to darken them slightly as the red plastic is naturally really....well..... red. lol

The last thing I want to do is be unsafe. So I'm probably going to forget that idea.

I plastidipped mine and you can still see them somewhat lol i left the 3rd brake light clear so theres still a good amount of light shining through still. I guess it just depends on how much you want to get pulled over or ass packed at a stop light lol. The plastidipp isnt perminant so if i do get pulled over, i'll just hop out of my car when he writes the fix it ticket and peel the dip off.

I'd suggest you stay in the car until after the office pulls away. You don't want to get shot or arrested for getting out of the vehicle for a citation you're already going to get.

just a thought.... could you pop them off, and using say, some fine sandpaper, put a glaze on the inside so they are "dulled" a bit, not so sharply bright?

you'd have plausable deniability
