Headlamps that are as good as OEM?

I have wet sanded and buffed many different headlamps in the past, but can't get the lenses to come out to my satisfaction on my 02 Focus.

I have become VERY good at doing this over the years but no matter what, sometimes I have come across a model/scenario that is hopeless even after removing the headlamps and going as far as removing the lenses themselves.

I always clearcoat with a UV protectant when I am done and my work is almost always amazing.

I think that in this case, it's possible that someone has wet sanded, buffed, and cleared these headlamps before causing me new problems.

With that said, I'd like to know if you'd trust any sort of aftermarket housings for good night vision with the focus.

My focus is just a very clean commuter car so I'd like to keep it well balanced without spending a lot of money on headlamps. I have read that the OEM headlamp is generally the best headlamp period for most vehicles.

I didn't believe it and have gotten aftermarket sets like TYC and Depo for some of my vehicles and have always been disappointed even after proper aiming.

How does the focus fare with aftermarket headlamps? Any specific brands you all have luck with?

Thanks

replacement headlight

Sad, but true, the OEM headlights are usually the best. In some cases the OE manufacturer of the headlight makes an aftermarket unit like Hella has for some Audi/VW, but generally most aftermarket lens assemblies are far from even being fair in quality. One thing that can help is to use CAPA replacement parts for body if money is a concern; in my experience over the years a CAPA part has or is the closest you'll get to an OEM part. A CAPA part usually costs between 25% to 150% more than a NO Name part, but for fit/finish and durability there's no contest.

I have DEPOs with Sylvania ZXE bulbs on my car. No complaints and I'm extremely picky with lighting.

I'd just like to add my awful experience here. I ordered a set of DEPOs on Ebay and received a set of Eagle Eyes instead without notice.

I decided to give them a chance since Eagle Eyes are supposed to be good (although I have been fighting lighting issues with them on my Dodge Caravan since I purchased them).

The adjusters then failed on me.

Someone else posted to be careful of the Ebay headlights that are in the 70-80 range. Here is a prime example.

Me too, for headlights or any lights as far as that goes. As you know you can't beat the oem ones. Have you checked out some used ones? Or this forum in the bst?

My passenger headlight is a Depot replacement. Driver's side is OEM. Lighting is the same, no problems with Depot. I purchased this light about 6 months ago and protected it with Lamin-x so it won't ever haze. You can find Depot headlamps on Amazon, that's where I bought mine :)

I have only done 3 cars before, and was never thrilled with the results. The last one I did was the best, a 2005 Toy 4-Runner, man was it easy. I got a new 3-M kit and tried to do my Focus and failed hard. The most coarse (500 grit?) sand paper could not break down the imperfections on my lens. This was using a drill kit and all my different approaches and attempts failed. None of the cars I did before were like this one. Completely miffed me, seeing many years of good/great abilities to fix and repair almost anything come crashing down. You might say I failed to do it correctly or my lenses are simply too far gone. My next approach will be burning this kit in a bonfire, never telling anyone how much I failed on this, purchasing a set of Depo brand headlights and blowing up my old OEM set. Call it therapy.
