89 probe turbo setup, works?

Recently my friend blew up their probe, long story short I'm getting first shot at the car before its junked, the kit is the stock turbo off of an 89 ford probe 2.2L engine. Pushes 10-12 pounds of boost. Will this fit on my car? I would assume it will, has anyone else tried this before?

its a small turbo made to run on a sohc engine, though with a larger displacement. That is THE engine I have in my mazda right now. I don't know how it will run for you though. Intake inlet is probably 2.25" and compressor outlet is less than 2". stock boost is 6-7psi but can be upgraded. maximum psi at least with that engine is 16.

I probably wouldn't suggest it. The manifold to turbo flange is an odd shape, and the downpipe flange is odd as well. it is also rotated slightly, so there may be some interference with the engine I don't know of.

Like I said it's a small turbo..... probably not worth your time, I don't think it will flow enough for you to make any worthwhile power. it ran out of breath on the stock engine at 14psi around 3800rpm. the new one is much better now.

edit: BUT hey since you're there, ask him how much he would be willing to get rid of his ecu for IF it's listed as an F220? I need one to chip.

Also thought I should mention..... notice the slight twist on the manifold. Even though it's an aftermarket flange, it still sits in the same spot. This IS an upgraded turbo in this picture but I don't have one without the heat shield off with the old setup. notice the design of the cast iron manifold, good luck bolting that up.

old setup before I switched stuff over, it doesn't take up too much space but yeah...

Wow I didn't expect such accurate feedback! Thanks! I will probably still take the turbo out f her car though, I'm getting it for free. So even getting 5 Hp and torque is still better than what I started with

not on its own as bolt on setup, some fabrication is required. this turbo like any can be clocked if needed.

this flange could be cut off and welded to the focus manifold if necessary. cast iron can be welded to, people say you can't but my first ever welds were mild steel to cast iron. still strong no cracks.

charge pipes will more than likely have to be custom. intercooler probably wouldn't be necessary but might as well.

if there's no internal waste gate clearance, weld it shut and remove the actuator and run an external. that's the purple thing on mine. blow off valve should be before the MAF and that should be a blow through style as any focus turbo should be.

oil feed and return lines will need to be made. I used a dorman heater pipe 5/8" nipple and welded it in to the oil pan just above the oil line (maybe too big for that turbo if there's such a thing. this was for the new one.)

tuning.... same as any focus. fuel system requirements are unknown to me. stock turbo injectors come as 330cc.

I would like to guess this will peak at 3250rpm for you.
