difference between flat and satin paint?????

so i have these stray cats around my place and they like to sleep on my hood by the cowl, well one of the cats scratched my paint to hell and i want to just paint the whole hood and i wanted to know the difference between flat and satin??????

flat is as the name implies. It looks like primer in finish. This is good when you don't want any reflection off the painted surface. It is sometimes absorbent and water will not bead off it. With no gloss, this finish fades and will look chalky.

satin is a semi-gloss. When you see factory cars with blacked out hoods this is what they usually use. It has about half the shine as the rest of the paint. It will bead water and you will get some reflection from it.

think of the difference between the paint in your bathroom or kitchen as compared to the walls in the rest of the house
