Carbon Fiber Hood - UPS FTMFL

After a few months of driving around with a dented hood, I finally found a nice OEM carbon fiber one for sale from someone on FocalJet. Great deal, and the seller even had it repainted and coated for me!

UPS shows up yesterday, and to my horror, this is what I find after eagerly unwrapping my new present;

It's evident that the damage happened during shipping, more than likely dropped, even though the hood was sufficiently wrapped. Is there something I can do to save this hood? Fiberglass? Bondo? Anything? The delivery was insured, and I'm waiting for UPS to contact me back, but man was this extremely disheartening.

I'm still going to install the hood for now, but have a vinyl decal along the edge that reads UPS FTMFL.

I feel bad saying this, but it wasn't sufficiently wrapped if this happened. That is a lot of shipping damage. I've seen hoods shipped just fine but they had foam blocks at every corner like 4 inches thick, molded to the shape of the hood, with wood bracing in the edges of the box. Hopefully someone paid for insurance for the shipment and you can get a refund.

Yeah, I was just thinking this should have had some foam blocks surrounding the corners. I guess 5 or 6 layers of thick bubble wrap isn't sufficient enough.

DAMN! That totally sucks! The part that was painted could possibly be fixed since the paint would cover the sight of the fix. The driver side mounting point looks kinda toast and any fix would show unless painted. I would still pursue UPS to get reimbursed. May be more effort to fix than worth it. If you do still put it on use hoodpins to secure the front to be safe.

Luckily the actual mounting point is fine, it's just the corner above it that broke off. I might have a couple options to run with, if UPS reimburses me.

Well at least there is that. Looks like it would've been a really nice hood if it had been blocked to prevent damage. Good luck with it.

I worked (past tense) as a manager at UPS for 15 years, and sometimes packages take a beating going through the system. If things are packed properly, they make it through unscathed, usually. But that was packed very poorly, at least should have foamed the corners, and then some. That may be an issue when a claim is filed. It matters. Good luck. That was a good looking hood, I saw that FS thread over there.
