Okay here are my chrome St170's (aka facelifts) that I am retrofitting with projectors. This is a progress thread, so bear with me til I'm finished with them.
Now, onto some pictures!
This was on the inside of the headlight lens. I cleaned it up so I don't have to deal with it anymore!
Testing out the E46-R Extended shroud
...and OEM E46 shroud that I removed the chrome from.
Actually the whole reason why the output wasn't great to begin with is because the bulb wasn't sitting flush with the projector. After you trim the base of the bulb it fit's great and the cutoff is straight and hotspot is centered.
I got the projectors from The Retrofit Source. It's called the Morimoto Minis, but it's also called the Mini H1. The H1 HID kit that is needed I got from DDM Tuning. This retrofit was less than $200 total.
Just make sure that the projector can bolt into your housing. So far, I know it fits H7, H4, and 9006.
Thanks everyone. And Stevie, I don't intend on doing any services (would take a month for me to get the headlight, and another month to send back, LOL!), but it isn't that hard to do. If you can crack open headlights to black them out, them you can put these projectors. These literally bolt in.
I never got a chance to post output pics because I couldn't find the battery charger for my Canon. But finally, here are some output shots.
The bulbs I ordered are supposed to be 4500K, but they sure don't look it. They look more like 6000K, so be careful when ordering from DDM. They never sent me my other bulbs either.
I ordered 2 new pairs of 4300K bulbs from elsewhere and I'll post pics of those when I get them in. My lights right now are way too white for my taste.
I installed the new bulbs, and they are exactly the color temp I wanted. I am certain the bulbs in the above pictures are 6000K, you can see a bluish tint in the pics even. My light is a little more yellow now and I have a little better night vision.
im wanting some st170's when taxes come back, and seein this retrofit makes me wanna do this. so all u need is a retrofit kit?
