Sounds good to me RS-wagon.[thumb]
My wife and I should be arriving in Rapid City around 7:00pm on Friday evening.
If anyone else is getting there Friday evening.....lets go out for a few "libations"!!![:D]

Looks like we'll make our hotel reservations by next week some time.
Has anyone else made reservations yet?
Should we all try and stay in the same place, or close by?

#5 ·
I havn't booked a room yet. So where are you getting reservations at WD40? I should be there friday evening so night entertainment would be great after a good drive.

#6 ·
I will be there Friday night. I am down for some "libations". I am not sure what time I will be there. I was going to roll up with crazy_urn so I need to find out what time he is leaving. Alos the list sounds good so far. I would like to do a little gambling. There are casinos there right?

Oh and reservation have not been made. I would like to be in the same hotel with other foci if possible.

#7 ·
Yes, we have casinos in Deadwood. It is about a 30 minute drive from Rapid city. You go through Sturgis, and you have a nice winding, hilly road to travel to get there. The max bet here is much better than Colorado. We can blow $100 at a time here.

#10 ·
I'll try and get the lodging question answered within the next couple days.
No one else has made reservations yet?
We do like a little bit more upscale than Super8, but nothing too extravagant.

Hmmmm. Gambling.
I'm not so good at that. $20 is gone in a heart-beat, and that's about it for me.[?|]

By the way. We'll be down at the Cheyenne Rodeo the end of this month.
Actually, (let the flames begin) we'll be at the Kenny Chesney concert on Saturday night.
I'm a true Classic Rock lover, but some of the newer "rockin' country" is OK.[;)]

#11 ·
I dont care if its a Super 8. I will be there no matter what. Just let me know.

I think RSVP should be starting to confirm... at the hotel any way.. if we can get a discount then sooner the better. Right?

And on the Hold'em thing.. I know what I am doing... making cash.. lol. If any one wants to roll to the casino later friday night or sat. night I will be going.

I need to add to the list:

Sat night ice cream a Fjords. some of the best ice cream I have ever had.

Two of the largest sculptures ever created are here
The monument at Mount Rushmore, completed in 1939, is one of the largest sculptures ever created. Twenty meter high faces of four US presidents, Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln are carved into the granite mountain in precise detail.

The nearby monument to Chief Crazy Horse is a work in progress. It was begun in 1949 by sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski, after the Lakota Chiefs had written asking him to create a monument to the American Indians. When completed, the sculpture of Chief Crazy Horse astride his pony will stand over 150 meters high and 200 meters long. Ziolkowski died in 1982, but his family continues the work. A large visitors center houses over 20,000 pieces of Native American art and craft.

Here are some things we can do...

_Celldweller's input

cut and paste from _Celldweller's comments in the main G2G thread

Okay here we go... I'll need some help from dingaling, but it's about friggin time to get a schedule going.

Saturday

- 11:30 or so: Meet up in a city park (ask dingaling) and picnic, take pics, kick each others tires, etc...

- Whenever we're done: Head out of town and go to Mt. Rushmore for more pics, Iron Mountain Road,
any other ideas while were out that way?

- Next: Something... autocross? depending on what time it is... around 9:30 or whenever the sun goes down,
get everyone together for a nice big Focus convoy around Rapid.

- Last: Hit the bars and whatnot... I don't know. I'm out of ideas for Saturday.

Sunday

- Noonish... depending on how late Satruday goes: Meet up at a mall or something?

- Next: Dingaling mentioned it and i'm up for it. $14 day pass to the water park.

-After that: I don't know... someone help out here... Dingaling? Hello?

(No, I'm not responding to my own post. These are _Celldweller's comments.)

Just throwing some other ideas out for the moment.
I could sure see meeting up a bit earlier than that, like 10:00?
That'd give enough time for breakfast, while still getting enough sleep on Friday night.
After the morning meet, caravan to Rushmore, probably an hour or so there, then a pot-luck lunch at a designated location?
We've also GOT to do the Iron Mtn highway.

Oh! Pig races at the Fair. Cool![:D]
Those are always a hoot!
Water park sounds good too. After all, I think I'm part fish since I enjoy water sports so much.

And, some other ideas that RS-Wagon has come up with.
Give out some trophies for:
1) Furthest distance traveled to the event.
2) People's choice favorite car.
3) ?
He also suggested a quick little questionairre to fill out with information like:
Phone, address, car info, etc etc.

Didn't someone mention T-shirts?
Got a good line on where to get some made for CHEAP?
I'd have no problem getting some art-work together for a printer.

Let's see....some other thoughts....
Bring all the little FRS, (Motorola type 2 way) radios you can get your hands on.
Be nice to keep in contact on the road.
Not sure how the cell phone coverage is over there.

quick, get some artwork together and i'll take it to my cousin this weekend and see what she can do on short notice. email it to me at...
goingloco1@abe.midco.net
or
goinloco1@abe.midco.net

either email and i'll see what can be done. please keep it fairly simple. if she will do it, would all large tshirts be ok? how many are needed, 25 enough? various colors or plain old black?
man this is turning into 20 questions aint it?[:D]

#19 ·
I think black would be best, and I know I would need an XL. Maybe we should get some pics of the cars that actually show up and try to get somebody to draw a picture with all of them, or maybe just a few that people vote for the shirt. Then we dont end up with too may and we will have an actual representation of the G2G. Maybe select three or 4 of the best vehicles and draw them in front of Mt Rushmore or something. This may be kinda gay, but how about a picture of Mt rushmore, but instead of the faces, draw four Foci carved into the side of a mountain. Go ahead and laugh at me, but I think it sounds kinda cool if somebody is a good artist. You could use a sedan, wagon, zx3, and ?

#20 ·
Yes celldweller mentioned it on are G2G in sioux Falls. I have a really good cam to take pics. Cell is great at digital graghics and I can draw well enough to say I can brag about it. Plus I can air brush well. Shirt color dont matter, couse in a brush situation I spray the back drop. The cars carved in the Mt Rushmore isn't all that bad. I like it to be honest.

T-Shirt Artwork/Radios

T-Shirts:
I'm kinda partial to grey t-shirts, cause black is too danged hot around here in the summer.
But....that's beside the point.
Let me see what I can come up with by mid-day Monday.
Ideas?
I was thinking "fOCUS on Mt Rushmore-2004" for a title.
With the fOCUS being in the font type that's on the car.
Show kind of a ghosted front end of a fOCUS coming out of the middle of the mountain, with the Presidents on top.
Any other ideas?
The other option versus having t-shirts made,
is to print out the artwork on those iron-on sheets,
and put it on whatever shirt you bring.
They generally have irons and ironing boards in the hotels.

Radios:
I've got 2, so I'll bring both of them in case someone needs one.
I've also got a couple handheld CB radios which travel a lot farther,
but for some REALLY strange reason, they interfere with the CD player.
I'm not kidding! I could hear myself talking on the car's speakers!
Weird....

#25 ·
I always have my digital cam along, and will bring my good 35mm for the "official" poseur shots.[:D]
Not sure about how to exchange pictures, but maybe I'll see if the wife can bring her laptop, and we could load them on there.
Hmmm, come to think of it, it's got a burner too.
We could make everyone a copy of ALL the pics.
As long as you've got a usb cable for the camera, they would load up.

Hey. How about some video too?
Does anyone have a website they could load them on for us to download?

#26 ·
WD-40 O like the idea on the shirts. Heather gray would be cool color, I don't know how well it would look on black. I will take two XLs. If I remember I will bring my digital camera. I do have an older VHS cam-corder. I will bring that also I don't have any two way radios sorry.
