So..........for fixing BMW I'm looking at

$2000 in shop labor plus $1000 ish in parts

or I could do it myself....still have the same $1000ish in parts plus I require at least $400 worth of special bmw tools which I do not currently have........tools/costs could get higher as I get into it.

all told it's looking like a 25-30 hour job.

do I DIY or do I just tow it to a shop and have them do it?

You have a DD Outback... If your in no real hurry to get back to auto-x'n then save the possible 1-1.5k and do that ish yourself..

If your lazy and want it running stat then take it to a shop

i would say do it your self. save monies and learn how to do more ish. but if its a super complicated thing buy m3 motor swap in and profitssssssssss

take to shop, then take a driving class that shows how to shift correctly.....

love joo! i kid , i kid

but depends if you have the know how and can do it in a timely manner if your wanting to get it back on road

also at lunch am going to tack down complete parts list and just make sure the parts quote is in line with G.A.S. quoted me for parts.

the timing system on this motor is extremely complex and I'm a little worried that if I dont get it right I'll ruin the motor and then wind up paying G.A.S. to re-do it for me again.

which "BMW" tools do you need?

You could do everything but timing because that looks like one little thing wrong and bam.......

also also to be safe i would have shop do it but you know more about your bmw motor abilities then I. Ive never done anything close to that.
