Unhappy Drivetrain Warranty & manual trans - gear shift

Hi,
I have a 2012 Focus SE with a 5 spd manual trans. It has 46,450 miles. It had trouble going in 1st, 3rd and 5th. Then it stopped shifting. The shifter moved but it would not go in gear and remained in neutral. I took it to my regular mechanic that said it was not the cables or wearable parts and it could be a warranty item. I took it to the Ford dealer that said it is a broken pin in the TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT HOUSING (part number CV6Z7201AA). They called Ford Customer Service and said it is not covered under the drivetrain warranty. I did the same and was given the same 'not covered'. I located a part diagram and it fits on the top of the transfer case. and goes inside the case. Without it the car can not 'drive'. Ford Customer Services did not have another case reviewer or wanted to let me chat with someone who could identify the part at part of the drivetrain or at least attempt to convince me. I need the car repaired. Does that not seem like this part should be part of the drivetrain? Any one else have similar problems?

Part diagram attached: It is "7201"

You've got different cables & 'shift tower' to match, but it sounds just like the same old failure of the roll pin that can give up over time - or as a safety from too hard a shift:

How to fix MTX-75 Shift tower, and reset shift cables on Tri-ax shifter
