Exclamation Coolent Leaks

Recently I had a ongoing leak of coolent near the thermostat area
which is that "Plastic" box mounted to the engine. The local garage found a bad "O" ring on the thermostat.A few weeks later it started
leaking again, but worse. After another trip the the garage it was found that the whole inside ring of the plastic box was GONE! yes Gone! I don't know if this plastic inside the box can't handle the heat of the engine or what but if it can't its a serious problem that Ford needs to address. They don't seem to answer my emails.
I hope by posting this it may save someone some greef that I went through finding this problem.
My Focus is a 2002 ZTS 50,000 miles

I have attached a photo...check it out

Go see if you can purchase a gasket for yourself from a parts store to fix the problem. I see RTV..... I'd also consider going to a Ford dealer to get the part. Look at the one from the parts store first, then look at the dealer part. Check thicknesses, composition, etc. You might notice that the parts store part is slightly inferior to the Ford part.... but looks like it will work. The Ford part lasted for a good bit longer than whatever was put in there by the shop... keep that in mind too.

Good luck!!

That just looks like a deteriorated and reused thermostat gasket. No wonder it blew.

Tell them to stop McGuyvering solutions and replace things properly. The stupid thing costs like two bucks.
