Question Fuel Pump Fuse

The 15 Amp fuel pump fuse has blown twice within the past 5 days on my 2002 Focus ZTS. The first time I was left stranded and had to get towed. My mechanic was unable to find a fault or duplicate the problem. Today the fuse blew again, but I had a spare and got home. My question is: Is there a known problem or possible recall issue regarding the fuel pump in the 2002 Focus ZTS? Any comments or insights will be appreciated. Thanks.

Jim

Yes, there are known fuel pump problems on the early foci. Ask you dealer if yours is one of them, He should be able to look it up by VIN.

Bringing this one back from the dead because I'm having the same problem with my '03 SVT. The car started to feel a little sluggish at lower rpms about 2-3 weeks ago. I replaced the fuel filter thinking it might just be that, no change in the issue. One day it just wouldn't run, I tracked it down to fuse #12 and replaced it. I also replaced the relay since it was cheap and non returnable. Two days later fuse 12 popped again. Anybody have any insight as to what is causing this.

Kudos on the fabulous search ability you posses.

Only real reason the fuse would pop is there is too much draw on that circuit.
Either the fuel pump is laboring and working too hard, drawing too much power to run. Or there is a corrosion issue somewhere along the lines, could be a short but somewhat doubtful.

Honestly I'd call the pump suspect and take a look at it. More than likely it needs a new sock filter anyways, people always forget that one and it is very important.
