gas station fueling problem

I have a 2003 Zetec wagon. When I pump gas, I can't insert the pump nozzle in all the way or the pump will shut off like the tank is full. I have to let the pump handle hang out most of the way for it to fill. Seems like some sort of back pressure problem. Any ideas?

probably an obstruction in the filler neck causing the vapor to quickly rise up

The hose that runs from the filler to the tank might also be collapsed depending on age and environment.

There's a breather hose from the top of the neck that can get clogged by spider webs and not let the air out while filling properly.

I have two early Focus cars, one does it and the other doesn't. On the one I get around it by turning the nozzle at 90 degrees and then it fills fine. Go figure.

Look up thread about the nozzle tip falling off.
Also, I've seen some nozzles with a goofy bend that don't seem to fit anything well. If you always fill at the same station, stop somewhere else and test fit their nozzle, S&G.
