Few bits noticed under my car

Hello lads and lasses

Under the car caging the oil filter and oil today, and noticed a couple of things which seem strange to my untrained eyes.

Firstly, a small rubber tube that is severed, and comes from the back of the bonnet, maybe under the scuttle panel, I'm not sure if it's a water run off or should be attached

And the second is what looks like a lot of oil but again, don't know if it is or is just dirt and water

Backatcha..............

Drain for cowl maybe, leave it be laddy.

Normal longterm spew from oil seals, relatively few retain 100% and they all ooze a bit. As long as no oil levels dropping/low same regimen, leave it.

Thank you for getting back to me mate. I thought it may be a drain of some sort due to the fact that it looks to be coming from under the scuttle but have never known of a floating rubber hose being used that way, most run off pipes are within the fabric of the car aren't they.

The car is 9 years old so could well have picked up a fair bit of muck, only done 66k though. I checked the oil about a year back and found it well under, I topped it up and recently done an oil change and there doesn't seem to be a leak in all honesty. I thought the rocker cover gasket was leaking but I cleaned it up recently and it doesn't seem to be.

Useful as well.

Tray under the cowl in this case, correct?

(many other meanings, just not used much and not for that here)

It's the plastic bit that goes across the bottom of the windscreen and over the top of the windscreen wiper motors, we call it a scuttle panel.

Scuttle panel would be the cowl here, I was thinking the tray under that which holds the wiper motor/linkage and air intake (usually drains to inside the fenders) might have a center drain using that hose you found.

whups - fenders = wings.

In all honesty, I had a look when I was under the car but didn't pays huge amount of attention when I was under the bonnet as I've got a bad back, but it may well have been coming from under the tray and not the scuttle (cowl).
