2005 Ford Focus ZX5 2.0 shift issue

I have a 05 Focus ZX5 2.0l with about 73,000 miles original on it. A few days ago it started shifting oddly, 1st to 2nd shifts ok, 2nd to 3rd though REALLY winds out before it jerks into gear. I had the fluid changed and filter as well and it calmed it down a tad, but its still shifting rough. Myself as a betting man say one of the solenoids is whacked. What do you all think? **also, its throwing no codes, went to AutoZone had diag done twice. Disabling the OD has helpes shift smoother, not perfect at all but smoother. Should I be shopping out a tranny at this point? How long can I drive with the OD disabled?

Forever if you want, old school cars didn't have one at all. Gonna wear out that button eventually though. And gas mileage will be lower.

The mileage is already down with the engine winding out to shift with the O/D engaged

But as far as long term, in reality I should probably be shopping out a new transmission ya think?

Yup, my 2006 Focus is doing exactly the same thing, but mine has 148,000 miles on it, so I'm due to have the transmission rebuilt.

Always wonder how many of the "every 30k miles" fluid changes they got when they start giving trouble.

Sadly I have no reasonable way to get that done. I have a pick a part here. I'll scoop out a trans, and just swap. Should be cheaper in the grand scheme of things I would think.

Wait..... we've had this problem before and it didn't require a new transmission. You might have a sluggish VSS or TPS, but I'd want to verify that with some of my trans experts because I'm no expert myself.

These parts offer engine input to control the transmission shifting. I think you should look into a lot of things before you go through the trouble to swap the transmission, and then have the same problem.

Would I be getting no codes nor a CEL if these were bad though?
