i did search and didnt find much usefull info. srry if i didnt search good enough.
first of all i bought this tb used. so it didnt come w/ mounting screws and a gaskit, i reused the oem screws except for the tps.
i used paper gaskit and cut it to fit the tb exactly and i also cleaned up inside the tb w/ all the debris.
im not sure if it was missing this other part as well. (refer to the pic)
So i just used the oem part for it w/ some washers to space things out a bit.
When i first installed the tb it was fine, took it for a test drive and it seemed good. then when i parked the car in the garage, and then restarted the engine to check for leaks, the CHECK ENGINE light came on.
so i checked for leaks but there didnt seem any problem.
then i restared the ecu and then started the engine. it was okay untill the second time i started the engine, the CHECK ENGINE light was on again.
Since my idle seemed low (a litte under the last line to 1k, so a lil under 800 i guess) i played w/ the idel control and rased my idle to 1 k.
then i took the car to fill up gas and i noticed the sticky throttle. so when i got home i re adjusted the tb idle contol to touch the "hammer" and give it a 1/4 turn.
Since you have the myfordfocus pic, I assume you read the part about the sticky throttle being common.
Usually adjusting the idle screw will take care of this.
Also, you shouldn't be able to raise the idle. It's controlled by the ECU.
You can turn the idle screw in but the ECU will adjust Air/Fuel accordingly to get it to the programmed idle of about 800rpms.
Also, are you sure you have the proper TB for your year of car and the proper bracket ?
I'm not sure if the stock bracket will work.
Did you mount the TPS correctly ?
btw:
When you reset the ECU, the CEL usually won't throw until you start your car the second time.
Have you taken the car to Autozone or other autoparts stores that will read your CEL for free to see what code it is throwing ?
yeah i did adjust the tb screw... turned it about 1/4 after it hit the hammer.
as for the proper bracket... that was one of my questions
from the look of the pic from myfordfocus... it looked like i had the tbs mounted on correctly... if ur talking about the right holes to put it in.
ive taken my car to checkers to run a code on my car before... what happned before was that my car wouldnt idle smooth and supposeldy the guys at checkers said that the reader read nothing ... even though my check engine light and my battery light was on... the problem turned out to be a blowen fuse in for one of the computers that adjusted my throttle. but when i took it to a real shop they were able to find the problem w/ their code reader.
so today i put my intake filter on better.. that could have been the problem.. and i played aroudn w/ the screw.... i took it for a drive... and didnt see any problems... then i resetted the ecu... but i didnt take it for a drive... it was too late already and i needed to go in to do some work...but i did start it up 2 x and the light didnt go on so hopefully the problem is gone.
so ill check and let u know tomrrow... if worse comes to worse... ill go to checkers... and buy some liquid gaskit... that might work better than my paper one and ill re install the tb to see if it works better..
i was thinking about the sticky throttle problem... obviously it's linked to the check engine light maybe?
the throttle screw is possitioned according to myfordfocus.com and it still has the sticky problem and it actually accelerates on its own sometimes... so it coudlnt be the screw could it? b/c if the screw isnt forcing the tb to open up, it shouldnt cause the car to rev up. Then it has to do w/ the ecu? probalby?
another question is ... ive noticed its practically impossible to kill my car in first gear (i have a manual), it wont jump or n e thing... so i guess the tb or computer is letting in lots of air? that also means that my milage will suck. ... is it normal for people to experience this w/ a larger tb or the fc tb? if it isnt i guess that points more towards it being a gaskit leak.
well i wont really be able to attemp to fix this till the weekend.
thanks for all the help
When you installed your TPS, did you have to turn it more than 1/8 of a turn to align the 2 mounting screws to the TB ?
You should only have to install the TPS middle portion on the TB then turn 1/8 or less to align the 2 mounting screws. If you turned more than 1/8, then your TPS might be installed corrected giving your ECU incorrect reading on the location/position of your throttle.
You could try remvoing the TPS and flipping it 180 degrees and mount it.
nope.. didnt have to move it at all... it mounted straight up and there was no prob about adjusting it to fit the screws. ill have a loook at it this weekend.
thanks
yeah i finally got my tps in from ford b/c when i took it off i found it in 3 peices :x .. had to wait about 3 days... i got it all installed and now the cel is still on. i guess ill try and go to checkers and try and use their pos code reader.
The car seems to run fine so far.. no stickyness and nothing like that.. except the cel.. but that was how the car ran the first time when i first installed the car... i guess time will tell?
another question.. my dad was saying that since i have intake and tb... more air is going into my engine... that means that my fuel to air ratio is screwed up... he mentioned someting about messing up the engine unless i reprogram the computer to the new settings.... but i was thinking about getting a chip n e ways... im pretty sure that would solve the problem.. but i was just wondering on how to "reprogram" it w/o a chip.
If you just have an intake and 65mm TB, your ECU will compensate for more fuel because your MAF will read more air coming in.
65mm TB doesn't really give you much of a gain if any at all. It just gives you a better throttle response and looks nice under the hood. I've flipped flopped between my stock TB and the 65mm TB and I like the 65mm TB better. The stock TB feels sluggish/unresponsive after you get use to the 65mm TB.
I would have Checker or Autozone read the code/CEL, make note of it then have them clear it and see if it comes back.
At least you'll have the code and know what's causing it if the CEL comes back on.

so i removed the tps and i foudn out it was free whelling again... aka broken. wtf. this is the second tps the tb broke. could it be that i got the wrong tb for the wrong car? or could it be b/c i used the oem bracket for the cable that runs and pulls the tb (i explained earlier in the posts that my tb didnt come w/ the bracket as shown in the picture above) is too strong and breaks the tps? that cant be right? b/c if the stock tb was open all the way.. the rod that turns the tps would rotate the same amout.
i did follow the correct mounting locations for the tps. i have a maual 5 speed 2000 focus. according to the picture, i assume that means mtx 00-02 right?
i e mailed focus central but i doubt that they're going to do n e thing to help me.
im about to fly this tb out the window and just use my stock tb... but that means no car for another week b/c i have to order a new tps and it takes almost a week to come in. [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|] [?|]
i was wondering if n e one can confirm that my tb is for the rigth year 2000-02. the pic on myfordfocus of the tb has 3 different positions for the tb.
but mine only has 2.
so this pic is how my tb would look like. the holes that are crossed out w/ the red x are not on my tb. so maybe its wrong? but it shouldnt matter b/c the holes that im missing are for a different year and for an automatic transmition.
Hey everyone,
I just joined, and I just purchased a '02 silver SE wagon w/auto trans. I know it's a grocery getter, but it is fun to drive and now my dogs have room. [] My ? is: Is the throttle sticky on other foci when you first accelerate from a stop, or does mine need cleaning? When my Pontiac GP did this, the tb needed cleaning. Second ?: Is 28 mpg the norm?
Thanks,
T410
i sent them an e mail. the said for the manual transmition the tb doesnt need the bracket and uses the oem one. but when i installed it, it didnt fit totally flush. they also said that they will check out my tb for me.
