Car starts then dies

Hello again, I've posted on here before and got some helpful advice so I figured I try it again.

My car is a 2001 Ford Focus SE with the SOHC engine. The motor has been completely rebuilt and has been running fine for months now.

Just today I got out of work and tried to start the car up, and the engine will start for about a second or two before dying. The check engine light came on but when I hooked up an OBDII reader (I keep one in the glove box, because why not?) it said that there were no codes thrown by the ECU so i don't have much to go on. While waiting for my ride to show up I checked under the car and there were no leaks, and tried pulling codes from the computer a few more times to no avail.

Step-dad to picked me up from work, and now I'm here posting this. He thinks it's either the fuel pump going bad or possibly the IAC valve. We're just guessing because it was late and we had to head home before examining the car any more. What I've read online seems to support these theories but I'd like to know if anybody here can confirm them or suggest something else.

Hopefully we can check the car out tomorrow or get it towed to a better location.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Checking fuel pressure with a code reader/scan tool at the OBD port would be the easiest way to determine fuel pressure for pumping trouble confirmation (or to rule it out).
