Tips for freshening up a 2009 SE?

Hello there,

I have a 2009 Focus SE and going to hit 60K in a bit. I will take it in for the scheduled maintenance but I was kind of wanting some input on how to make it feel a bit newer again.

I'll probably get it detailed by a friend and it needs a good cleaning. But my questions here are more about mechanical. It doesn't track as well as it was when new. Meaning it always felt like it was really straight and planted. It probably needs an alignment, but we did do one about 2 years ago. I suppose that's too long.

Are there certain areas to address to make it ride like a new car? Shocks? Etc.... We did get new tires when we got that alignment done I think it's going on 2 years and they are good tires. Michelin.

It's a completely boring SE automatic with no mods but just making it feel refreshed would be nice. It could also use some more power, but I'm not sure I want to go too far off of factory specs. But if there are some simple tips for that, like a K&N filter or something. I'm all ears.

Thanks for the input all and have a great day!!

I could be wrong but I don't think those would do much to tighten up the suspension. :I

Shocks/struts would be worn at that mileage, though they should still be acceptable (not shot).

Tire wear can give a hint as to alignment problems, uneven points to an alignment needed.

At 60k the suspension is definitely on it's way out, but still has some use left on it. I'd start looking at replacements, either stock or aftermarket. You could also probably benefit from some new front stabilizer links. Those are the horizontal bars you see connecting the front struts to the sway bar. They are notorious for going bad on these cars. OEM Motorcraft or Moog links are fine if you're actually driving the car like it's meant, and not a race car like us :P

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, no driving too crazy for me. A little quick around the corners every once in a while. That's about it. A few times hammer down. When I first got it I was testing 0-60 sometimes. LOL. 9.5 seconds I think was the best I could do.

I've got an appointment this Saturday for the 60K maintenance. I guess it entails a tranny flush, a new gas filter if it's not in the tank, check all the other filters, and a tune up. I told them I want to do an alignment. He said he'd diagnose it.

I'm thinking about asking them if they have some of those whiter lights to put in it. I saw it in another thread. crystal vision or something with a whiter color temp and a bit more light too than stock I guess. Might be a good thing. IDK. But I'll tell them to have a looksee with the suspension parts too. I don't think the struts are worn too much at this point though. We have struts, right?

Fuel filter is not inside the tank, it's right outside it. We do have struts. The headlights they'd probably tell you to change yourself unless you brought them in for them to do. They'd just replace it with the same ones you have now.

These are from when we first bought it. And oddly enough, all these pics are 35mm film. You might be able to tell. That first B&W was too. C-41 though.

I really need to work on my car photography. Bad perspectives....

You can push the suspension to 100 miles if you drive REAL smooth.
