shifter cable keeps popping off bracket, how to stop?

Ok,for the second time in a year,my shifter cable popped off of it's bracket and left me without the abilty to shift gears. luckily the first time I was in my driveway, and this time I was on a country road so I could just pull over, pop the hood and fix it. Is there a permenant fix to this? I tighten the plastic nut down as tight as I dare without stripping or breaking it. 2005 5 speed 2.0 120,000 miles. Thanks!!

Someone else will likely reply with a better solution. Until then...

Clean connection with de-greaser or carb cleaner. Add Loctite theadlocker (blue or other type) and it should not come loose again.

Highly doubt that, but really don't know.

Zip Tie?

Locktite isn't good for some plastics, no idea if these are included.

My Speed6 did this to me 3 times in traffic. Mazda finally had to replace the entire cable, as the joint had a defect from the factory and refused to stay on.

Marde - I've got limited info. on damage to plastics.

Honda warned against using thread lockers on plastic bodywork attachment hdwe., as getting it on the plastic could make it brittle leading to cracking. (mostly ABS, they didn't specify)

That gives little info. on particular types, and we know many plastics are a LOT more resistant to chemical degradation than others.

Hate to even mention for lack of specific info., the zip tie possibility has been mentioned as a "fix" before so I threw that in.

Some of the worlds best and worst repairs are done with zip ties. You can do it!
Maybe add a little bumble gum and safety wire too.
