Quick PCV swap question.

I know where its at...as far as changing is it as easy as I think. Pull the elbow off valve and tube then pull out and install pcv valve then shove the new elbow on both?

01 ZTS Zetec DOHC

Yes it is that simple.... Just an FYI, A lot of times you can avoid having to by a new one simply by cleaning your existing one. Remove the PCV valve and elbow and clean/soak them with carb/throttle body cleaner then rinse with hot soapy water. You should be able to shake it and hear the ball/plug rattling inside the valve.

Thanks. I learned from my 2nd gen Escort that cleaned usually won't past as long as new. Plus its cheap. Existing elbow looks extremely hard and brittle.

Off topic question. My escort had an known problem with thermostat housing bolts snapping off. Since my very minor leak is a near future fix does the DOHC have the same issue or did they use good bolts.

The bolts are usually pretty good, it's the crappy housings that are the issue on these ones!

I hear ya! It's never fun having to get out the stud puller/extractor, or even worse yet, the drill and tap. Not always much room in the engine bay to do that sort of operation.

Got it swapped. Boy that was fun. I tried to pul on it and it was so hard and brittle it tore apart lol. Managed to slowly chip off the rubber piece by piece and got it changed. It helped my idle and especially power a lot.
