'03 ford focus fan relay problems...please help!

Hello there! i'm kinda a new guy here, so forgive me if i break any protocol.

Well, bought my 03 ford focus se with the 2.0 zetec some time ago. Fixing up stuff on it, i noticed the previous owner had removed the thermo, as well as messed up with the fan relay such that it will come on as soon the key is turned to start position. This is characteristic of mechs down here in Ghana (where i am anyways!) to "tropicalise the car" My little knoledge tells me this messes with the car's control board. making it lap up gas like mad! I have managed to replace the thermostat. However the relay was so messed up, that when I took it to be reversed to stock, the indigenous mechs had no idea what they were doing , leaving my engine bay in a mess of wires!

I would really love if anyone with a similiar car/circuitary would at least send me a couple of pics of the fan circuitry especially the relay switches along it so i'll know which wires to detach and retach. If you have a little more time to spare, do talk me through the parts to look for/ replace and things to do!

ps...i managed to take a couple of pics with my terrible phone camera.....thats the relay that gives me headaches....the pic is terrible but its the one thats near to the battery!

All our US spec relays are neatly packed in a fusebox, nothing like what you show there at all....................

Opps, my bad! the relays on mine are in a fuse box at the far end of the engine behind the air filter assembly.the mess of wires you see in the picture are the wired that 'feed' the cooling fan (from the computer?) . The picture's terrible but its the point close to the radiator; that there are some 'socket-like' connections. removed the air intake to get a shot of it! The previous owner sent it to one of the mechs down here , who made such a mess of it, just so the fans start running as soon as you turn the key. That's what i'm seeking to reverse.

Sorry if i kinda got e verbatim wrong!

This post I happened across tonight includes links to threads on the fan resistor function:Resistance Measurement of Cooling Fans

One of the things to look for when checking out how the wiring has been changed is the presence of the cooling fan resistor pack between the fans which is used to control low speed operation.

Your system has been hot wired to come on all the time. Original one worked with the relays & the resistor to allow low & high speed operation at different temps as controlled by the ECU (PCM).

Some detective work will be needed to find where the changes were made & figure out how to return it to stock. Meanwhile you'll be running it as is just to avoid overheating in daily use.

Can't remember if you've got the thermostat installed now, having the fan run all the time won't be a problem if you have that installed.

Thanks alot!! guess i'll look up the schematic and 'assign' some electrical engineering students to fix it up evil laughter!!
