SVT timming tensioner

so i followed the timing thread to a T and no codes! not problems that I know off other than a strange tapping/light knocking sound coming from the water pump area and this only started this week after over a month after the timing. I found the ac pulley bolts were finger tight so I tightened them again and have not heard the sound but it has been intermittent since I discovered it so only more driving will tell, and is there a good way to tightened those without spinning the pulley?. ANYWAYS, i took off the timing cover to check inside there, and noticed my tensioner was off.
I had it dead nuts on when i set it all up, so I am wondering if the belt stretched a little after the last 1.5 months of driving and the tensioner auto tensioned to take up the slack. Any input on this?
The shop manual i have says that as i tighten the tensioner counter clock wise that the notched pointer will rotate clockwise. So if i have this correct if anything its over tightened OR like i said auto adjusted as the belt loosened up to keep the correct tension.

You have to rotate the engine in the direction it turns with the crank bolt , about 1/2 an engine turn then see where the mark is to the slot and adjust , if it is loose it can tick some , you cannot check it with the engine running

ALL belts on earth drop off some tension once they run in or about ten minutes of use. After that Ford says not to retension, it then ends up too high and then the belt walks to go over pulley edges and tear up. If you are riding on the pulleys correctly do NOT touch it. Belt can run right to edge and be OK but any over at all and it will then fray edge, and the thicker edge then frays more to bring belt down.

The indicator is for the install only, if you got that part right I personally totally ignore where the pointer ends up later as belt runs in. Means nothing since belt tension has changed due to break-in. Second guessing will not really work as you now no longer have a 'new' belt and tensioner will not be right any longer.

precisely its only there for the initial tension, as long as it was torqued correctly and in the window before you rotated the engine again. you are good.

I like them in the window while rotating in engine working direction and I'll roll around 3-4 times checking it and marks. After that no more touchy...........

OK, that's all good feedback thanks. I figured this was the case but wanted to be sure. My belt rides about an 1/8 of an inch from the edge so should be fine.
