Automatic Transmission Problem.

Here goes. The car in question, a 2000 Focus with a 2.0 Zetec motor, has been a tough one. I bought it knowing it had a blown motor. Got a new motor, the same kind, and that one blew too. Threw a rod. The 2nd cylinder in both motors. Turns out it was the brain. Got that replaced and programmed to the car, and voila. It runs and idles smoothly. Naturally, I'm jazzed. I let it sit a minute, just idling, just to check for any possible problems. None, that I can see. So I hop in, and put it in reverse ... and nothing. I try another gear, and nothing.

Park works, and when I shift out of it into reverse the right lights come on and everything. But, it doesn't actually engage and drive. What throws me off is that it shifts out of park, but not into any other gears. Its like all the others are just neutral.

Any ideas?

Lots of things could be wrong with an engine replacement -and- a newly programmed PCM.

Just a guess, but I wonder if your transmission is electrically connected to you car PCM. There is a connector called "transaxle case connector" that must be connected on the transmission. Is it connected?
You've got to ask yourself one question: Do you feel lucky? -and could you really drive a Focus ATX Wagon?

Maybe a dumb question, but is there transmission fluid in it? I've personally forgot to add it after a motor swap, so just asking.
