Warm start intermittent long crank

Me again. Just flushing out potential issues as I see them since it's a new (to me) car.

I've been having this issue. Sometimes it fires right up warm, other times it doesn't and takes a while. I've poked around on here with various searches, and it doesn't look like anything definitive has ever come up, so I'd like to see if anyone has anything new.

This states a TSB has been issued for this, but a search on the ford service site doesn't show anything for my VIN. Does that mean the flash has been done? Also, this post, of the same thread, states that swapping relay R1 with R3 resolved the issue for them. Would doing this cause any long term or immediate problems? So far, this suggestion seems to work. As soon as I notice it won't start up, a tap of the gas pedal will let it start up.

Any ideas?

This was beat to death a few years ago when we were driving brand new 05's. It's only the 05 MY vehicle that suffers. At one time there was a company that offered a fix with a small piece of plastic that cost $90, and it fit into a hole in the throttle body. I don't know of anyone who bought it.

I own an 05, and I've owned it from 2 miles to 165k. The problem is a lack of fuel for startup- or too much air. I can't recall if changing my fuel filter alleviated the problem or not. Why? I developed a habit when starting the car. I do it and don't even realize when I do it any more. Hop in the vehicle, turn the key to start. If it doesn't start in the first rotation, release the key, and start again. It always starts on the first bump. I don't think I even turn it back to OFF.

That way if someone is observing you, say some hot chick or hot dude who knows something about cars, they don't think you have some ragged POS that won't start. They will think you have a loose connection at the starter, and might offer to help if they think you're a hot chick or hot dude.

Then i'd have to guess its a starter. If you look into starters when they get worn out the reason the car won't start after you already started it is because the starter is to hot. Thats why lets say you drive your car, park it then 10mins later try to start it it wont. But when its cold it does right away. Thats just a guess though, look into it.
