Hey everybody I'm new to the focus game. I have a 2002 svtf. Has 152kmiles and I just traded my 95 mustang gt for it. I don't really know if it was a smart deal yet. The car runs great other than being slow as can be. Cel code p1383 and b1318. I pulled the timing cover off n it doesn't look like the belt has ever been changed. I can literally move it back and forth on the cam gears. The guy I got it from said the gauge cluster had to be replaced when he got it and the B code has been on ever since. I'm gnna take a wild educated guess from what I've read that the VCT solenoid is the culprit for the P code since it has oil around it and the belt doesn't look like it's been changed. Car runs n idles just fine. Disturbingly slow and gas mileage is def around 8-12mpg lower than Wut I've been told it shld be. So here are the questions that I can't find answers to...I'm gnna do the timing belt this weekend, order all the parts tomorro. I saw there is a VCT delete kit out on the market. Is this a good idea if I'm planning on building a decent n/a motor and just put adjustable cam gears on? Or should I replace the VCT and keep it on there? Where can I get the tools I need to do the timing belt, like the bar for the cams and the timing pin? And am I on track with my diagnosis for the VCT or does the battery code make a difference? I noticed some of the wires on this car have also been cut/replaced already and are put together with butt connectors. I haven't done a continuity test yet but one set of these wires are coming from the VCT. They look a little newer like someone replaced the pigtail. Could this have been an attempt to fix the VCT issue instead of paying for the ridiculously high priced solenoid? I took the VCT out like some have done and I cleaned it out with break clean. Reset the light and drove it around. Felt a lil better but then the light came back on n went back to being slow. Like somebody tied an anchor to this thing . I understand they don't have much torque and they're not the lightest cars out there but I know this thing shld be faster since the hp to weight ratio is only slightly lower than my stock 95mustang. Any input is much appreciated guys. I want to like this car. Lol so far I'm not convinced

I'm going to move this to "General Technical Chat" since the first thing needed is to get this running right.

SVT upper cam cover

This thread from the SVT performance area will give some info. on the VCT.

Cam belt is extremely important on these since valves WILL be bent if it lets loose.

Posting in general tech for repair problems & SVT performance for upgrade info. will make your questions easier to answer.

Luck!

P.S. - Welcome to FF!
