Throttle Body and TPS - I am confused...

So, upon purchasing my Focus, I decided to be proactive and swap out as many parts as I could since parts are relatively cheap.

Regarding the throttle body and TPS, I am a bit confused.

My Focus is a 5 speed manual and I ordered the TPS for the manual, but it looks totally different. The TPS for the Automatic looks like what should fit on my car. I checked the wiring harness and there is no sign of tampering.

Upon doing some digging online, I read something somewhere about Ford upgrading the Throttle Body to require a different TPS and connector.

Can someone explain to me what's going on here? My TPS works fine, but I just need to know what to do in the event that the part fails.

I remember Automatics getting a new throttle body & TPS, also seeing notes on more than one type being used on manuals.

Ford part by VIN might be the easiest, parts store listings might not get you the right one without taking yours with you to match it.

If it's not broke don't try fixing it. Your going to nickle and dime your self replacing parts that don't need replacing.

Do the screw holes line up?

If so, I would try it.

Although, if there is any weirdness, that is the first avenue I would pursue.

Do you have a Bluetooth ODBSD-II and 'Torque'? If so that's should provide all the answers.

If not, it would be twenty bucks well invested.

There was a range of manual transmission focus's that utilized the automatic TPS. No kidding. I went through the same thing because that's how mine is. But just take the TPS off, search the web by part number (I got mine at rockauto.com) and don't pay attention to when it says AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I will give the Automatic TPS a shot and report back on the outcome.

Wanting to come back and close out a few threads.

I ordered the automatic TPS for the same year and it worked. I used a Motorcraft TPS.
