Mk2 inside door handle fails in freezing temperatures

Hi.

I had a problem this morning with my 2005 ford focus estate. when I was going to open the driver side door I pulled the handle and nothing happened, It felt like the handle didn't latch on to anything. Note, the outside temperature is -7c. I say this because this happened a couple of times last winter in cold temperatures.

I was able to roll down the window and open the door from the outside.

Any suggestions what could be wrong?

Eric.

Yeah, the lube wears off on the latch and makes that issue. I used some Lithium spray grease a long time ago, but silicone spray grease will work as well. DO NOT USE WD40 or any other liquid spray lube. Those break down the grease that is put on there by the factory. You want to use some sort of grease, and then work the latch to make sure the grease is applied properly. With Li spray grease, you have to work quick as it's thinner for just a few seconds after being sprayed. I don't know how silicone spray grease works.

I'm having the same problem I think. But it hardly gets cold here in Texas often. My wife went to open the door from the inside and heard a pop. Now it doesn't work. I took the panel off and looked inside. The steel cable still moves when the door handle is pulled, but isn't moving the latch. How do I fix it?
