Fuel pump replaced, still no fuel

I'm working on my sister's 2001 Focus ZX3, Zetec engine. She left it with me for a while, was running fine. One day filled it up with gas, and it died before I left the station and hasn't run since. It'll start on starter fluid. Did a lot of research here and elsewhere and immediately saw all the issues with the fuel pump. Couldn't hear the fuel pump run when turning on the key. Confirmed that the fuse was good, that the passenger compartment inertia switch hadn't been triggered. So I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump (NAPA brand, $65; fuel pump only, not entire assembly) and the fuel filter. Reinstalled everything; can now hear the fuel pump run when key is turned. But still no fuel reaching the engine. Pulled the hose off of the fuel rail; no fuel. Pulled the hose off of the fuel filter and tried sucking some fuel through; only a trickle. I don't see a way to check the fuel pressure on the Zetec engine (no pressure check valve on the fuel rail). I'm about to give up and have it towed to a garage. Would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. I've read many posts on here about the fuel pump problems; sorry if this has been addressed and I missed a thread. Thanks.

With just the pump and not the assy what did you use to connect the fuel pump to the cannister assy , hose and clamps ?

I have seen a dozen times they use hose and clamps then when its put together the hose gets kinked and no fuel goes to the engine

If you can hear the pump running then I would look at how you have the hose tucked away when you put it together
