Copper Pipe under my car

I have a question. I am not a car expert by any means however I am putting in my new Thermostat Housing Unit and when I was looking up at my engine from underneath I see a copper pipe that has a nut on it and it is disconnected. When I line up the 2 pieces of pipe and try to connect the nut 1) my hand has no room and 2) the wrench doesn't have room either. I don't know when this came loose and don't know if it is fully important because if it has been disconnected for a while then it hasn't effected my car much if at all.

If anyone has any suggestions on what it is and how to fix it I would appreciate it. barton.graphics@gmail.com

pictures explain a thousand words when it comes to this kind of thing. you can post them to a fliker or photobucket account and the get the img tag and put it in the post.

Welcome to Focus-Fanatics!

is it under the thermostat? size of pipe? where do the two ends go? off hand I would say sounds like it might be a disconnected EGR that's above the thermostat though.

sounds to me like part of the EGR system if I remember right. I haven't looked under the hood of my car for about a year now. I thought the EGR coming of the exhaust looked copper colored from heat discoloration.

it does have a copper look but it routes above the thermostat. so it should be very easy to see when you are just looking at the engine bay from above. Sounds like he can only see it when under the car. Could be from a previous owner running an oil line?

From above the pipe runs along side the top of the thermostat housing unit down to where it connects... that's how I found out that was loose... I am having issues uploading from my phone... when I accelerate it now jerks... I don't know if this has to do with the loose piece...
