Dash wrench light, check engine - Ford Service can't find a problem
I've got an 09 Focus (manual) with 66,000 miles on it, and a few weeks back I was driving on the freeway with cruise control on, when all of a sudden I lost the ability to accelerate. Engine was running, tachometer read 2000 RPM. I tried downshifting and finding power in a lower gear - but nothing. The dash displayed an orange wrench symbol, but no check engine light.
When the tow driver Ford Roadside set up took it to the dealer, he left the hazard lights on (and, the windows open with keys inside the vehicle), so the battery died and cleared any codes from the computer. When the service team started it up and drove it, they couldn't find anything wrong.
Fast forward a week and a half, and the same problem happened to me again. This time, I stopped the car, restarted it, and the wrench light was gone. I waited a few minutes and continued driving. After another 10 minutes, it happened again, only this time, it was paired with a check engine light.
I had it towed to the Ford dealer again, but I'm not looking forward to hearing "we don't know" again.
Any thoughts? Thanks!
