SVT Focus Battery Light Is On

So the first night, the light was flickering on and off, and the gauges and interior lights kept flickering.

I took it and had it load tested, both the battery and alternator checked out fine.

Next day looked at it under some light. Checked the three wires going to the alternator, the middle one seemed to have gotten loose, so I cut all 3 wires, and rewired them.

Now the battery light comes on and stays on, but the interior lights and such arent flickering anymore.

Suggestions?

Get yourself a multimeter. Harbor Freight is your friend

Go to You Tube and type in battery alternator multimeter alternatively type voltmeter in place of multimeter there there will be all sorts of videos of varying quality
There are three important voltages to know
Voltage across the battery while the car is off
Voltage across the battery while the car is running
Ditto as per above but turn on the heater and headlights

While there are those that can tell you to turn the cluster into a voltmeter , what it cannot do it to set the the scale to AC Volts and see if there is any voltage across the battery in case of a flaky diode in the alternator.

Trying to fix electrical problems w/o a multimeter is like someone w/o a wrench to fix a mechanical problem

Replace the Alt. pigtail, use solder and heatshrink.

Check the dash grounding point up behind the drivers side kick panel. Disconnect, use sand paper down to fresh metal. reattach.

Having a voltmeter, and having the skills to use it, are sadly two very different things.
