A/C evaporator core problems

So the A/C has went out a total of 3 times since I bought the car last October. Over the course of all of that, I've replaced the compressor, condenser, drier/accumulator, orifice tube, and any necessary o-rings. This was all done with the help of a commercial HVAC friend who has all of the necessary equipment and tools to work on a car as well.

I thought I had it fixed last time until I started smelling freon in the interior and day by day the air would get warmer and warmer until I took it in today to Big-O for a diagnostic. First they did a bubble test as part of their $30 diagnostic, and couldn't find any leaks. They also found that the system was pretty low on freon and suggested an evac and recharge (while adding dye) because air could have found its way in. Sure enough after that was done, a puddle of bright green dye was on the floor of their shop. Turns out it came from that drainage hose that I believe is hooked up to the evaporator. They gave me a quote of $1,350 to fix it.

Since I can't afford to do that, I took the car home and will be doing the work myself. Question is, is the evaporator truly done for? If so, what would be the next steps to take from here? (I found a few threads that can follow along when replacing the evaporator, so I should be fine there)
