weird issue today

So this morning I get to work, hit the lock button and the car honks twice. Normally it does not honk unless i hit the lock button twice.. It did the same thing at lunch and when I got home... Same hit button once, honks twice.. Also while driving, the doors kept locking and unlocking...
Any ideas? anyone else having this problem??

I know our 06 honks twice if something isn't closed all the way... Are all the doors and rear closed with nothing in the way? If its not that- it may be one actuator not locking or one latch not making full contact.

I think the locking and unlocking could be an indication of a latch not closing tightly or the car not sensing that something is closed. Like it goes into a loop auto locking but then unlocking because it thinks something has been opened, then maybe hitting a small bump knocks it out of place again- unlock- then another bump- lock.

First thing I would do it check that the locks and latches on the insides of the doors and trunk are all mounted securely and don't look out of place, and that everything is shutting flush with no play when closed (like how you can shut a door lightly but you can push it in a little after because it isn't completely closed). You might try wd-40 of the mechanical parts of the latches too... Could even need a shim to make a more secure contact when closed.

If its not that, it could be something in the electrical part of the locking system- a small short, something grounding out very slightly. That would be something the dealer ought to fix for you.

The only other thing I could think of- a long shot, the remote may have issues... Do you have another? Try using a different on for a day, or no fob at all?

Hi GreyBullit,

This sounds like a great puzzle for your dealership to solve. Make an appointment and I know they'll help you out. If you need any additional assistance, just give me a shout and I'll do what I can to assist. In your PM, be sure to include your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.

Thanks!

Crystal

Thanks Crystal, But today... all is normal.
It has been raining since Friday on and off, with some blinding downpours, so maybe one of the things got wet.. If it does it again, I will be taking it to the dealer..

I have a 2012 Focus with the same issue. It started a couple of days ago with an occasional random relocking. It seemed to be related to hitting the auto-lock speed, but then it started doing it at ~40mph. Yesterday it started flashing the red exclamation point on the dash at the same time. When I drove over some railroad tracks the locks went absolutely berserk and then again on every uneven spot in the road all the way home.
