Transmission Pan Magnet

Quite some time ago, we changed the transmission fluid of my '00 ZX3 and forgot to put the magnet back when we replaced the transmission pan. So we then decided to just stick the magnet outside the pan. A couple weeks ago, when I had an engine oil change, we realized the magnet is not there anymore. Either dropped while driving or dude at mechanic shop took it off when my car was in for repairs.

I can get strong magnets to put on the pan, but just wanna ask how strong is strong. I can get rare-earth ones that are rated at 3, 6, 9, 22, up to 30lbs (magnet's lift power)

Dropping the pan is not an option as I don't have time to do that and the fluid is still recent so it's going on the outside. How strong of a magnet should I get? (refer to the lbs ratings above). Thanks a lot

What in the world made you think it was a good idea to put it on the outside of the pan?

Anyway, you can probably order that part from Ford. I'd check with Village Ford to see. Then you can put it in the next time you drop the pan. Yes, Neodymium magnets would be the best to get, and just get some small ones, then double up for more power. The reason is that those are easier to handle. I have some 35 lb pull strength neo magnets at the house. I can tell you that you'll have serious problems getting one onto a pan without shattering it and shooting magnet shards at supersonic speeds towards your face.
Be eclectic.
