Car lock cylinder cleaning

I was wondering if there is a special product that can wash the dirt out of a lock cylinder, without disassembling the lock.

thanks in advance
Simon

There are de-icing sprays for locks.
Use that, then squirt some graphite lub for locks back in it after it had dried from the de-icing spray.

Just take it out, it's not a big deal until the key locks up.
Since you sound like the cylinder is getting sticky, you might want to spend the $30 on a replacement cylinder to avoid having the ign lock up on you at the worst moment.

Thanks for the reply. Well, just got a new key for my focus but the new one seems to be difficult to enter the cylinder and when it does it hardly moves, whereas the old one easily gets in the cylinder and moves very smooth. Have even used WD-40 to smoothen the cylinder and the whole lock system but it hasn't helped that much.

If I replace the cylinder, can I still use the same keys to ignite the engine?

I am not sure whether a new cylinder will help, what about the inner part of the cylinder, doesn't it have to fit the key?
They give you a bunch of slotted tabs, you pick the 8 or 10 that fit your current key(s). Some people pay a locksmith to do this part, it is easy but repetitive. It took me 10 minutes or so during my morning cup of coffee to get the tumbler tabs fitted to my keys, having never done it before.

Sounds like an easy job, have seen some dealers on Ebay selling them from $10, will they work, or does it have to be original from Ford?

Just found a video on Youtube explaining the whole stuff, but still wondering how the programmed keys can be used again.
