phantom brake fluid leak - 02 lx

I have a 5 speed 2002 LX and noticed brake fluid on my clutch about a month ago. two weeks ago I replaced the clutch master cylinder and the hydraulic line. This stopped the leaking inside the vehicle and I thought all was well until my clutch gave out a few nights back. I was on the highway when i noticed my dash brake light flickering and the smell of brake fluid. when i exited the highway my clutch was gone. Fortunately I was able to get it home and as expected my brake fluid was significantly low. I need help, I know that there has to be a leak somewhere but after bleeding my brakes I can't find it. Thanks in advanced for any help

Well, if you smelled brake fluid and had no peddle/clutch ... odds are the slave is leaking now.
Brake fluid on a clutch disc will destroy it. So it looks like you're doing a clutch in the car.

Rear brake cyl. leakage you likely would have seen from evidence on a wheel...

How about the drain hole at the clutch housing bottom?

Look there, and even stick in a pipe cleaner or equivalent to clean out any oily crud that might be sealing that drain hole....

Couple ideas for ya...

Luck!

Since Ford ran the clutch slave cylinder and the brake fluid out of the same reservoir, if your clutch slave cylinder(which it sounds like) went out, then it will drop your brake fluid and cause the brake light on the dash to come on.

Not unusual in a hydraulic system, replace the master and the pressure goes up so the next weak part leaks. Fix that, pressure goes up and the next weak part leaks. On old VWs, when the master brake cylinder would need replacement, I also replaced the four wheel cylinders and the flexible hoses. Moral: if you need to replace the clutch master give serious thought to the slave.
