Is Mobil 1 0W20 safe to use in 2013 SFE?

Semi-synthetic 5w-20 is what my book says, but I want to try the 0w-20 Mobil 1 advanced fuel economy oil.

Will I hurt my engine?

Not much difference and you won't see any provable difference in MPG, so why bother?

FWIW - you can get official Ford oil at Wally World cheaper than Dealer cost, using that & changing it more often then the MAX mileage between changes would be a good "treat" for the car. AND you're using std. recommended fill during break-in & warranty period.

Why? The only difference is at cold start, the oil is same weight at hot. Not enough effect there, engine warms up pretty quick. Most of your fuel economy time is with hot oil.

You live in Texas dude. When the temp is well below freezing it makes a HUGE difference in total MPGs to have to warm the engine up from sub freezing. Half the gas FOR THE ENTIRE TRIP goes to wase in those first few minutes in sub freezing temps.

We live in Texas? Why I believe you're right.

When all oil (0 wt, 30 wt) is cold, say at 80 deg., it is actually too "thick" to properly lubricate your engine. At working temp, ~212 deg., all oil is "thin" enough to properly lubricate your engine. If you are in sub-freezing temps your big worry should be engine lubrication, so you should let the engine idle until it warms up. The real diff between 0 & 5 wt, is the 0 wt will get to operating viscosity a little quicker than 5 wt. But in sub-freezing temps neither one can lubricate your engine properly until the oil warms up. To save money in the long run, when in sub-freezing temps let the engine warm up before driving. This is a reason to have a block warmer in sub-freezing climates.

^its just a tad lighter viscosity, and looks clearer, its mainly supposed to increase gas mileage but with how light it is i wouldnt push more than 4000mile oil change intervals. If you wanna do it right use mobil1 full synthetic.

Watch 'em go to -5W next month. This thinner and thinner oil thing is just crazy, I have a theory on that but people just think I'm crazy.

0w vs 5w isn't really that much of a difference like amc49 said, but you do notice a slightly softer start (seems to roll over a little quicker with little less resistance) in the winter... My local ford dealer recommends it on my car, but really I don't think there is any need to go out of your way for it... Here in Ohio we rarely see below 10-20f, wow if you were getting down to 0f, I might consider it

Really the only cure for the cold is a block heater...
