Hey guys, rookie question here, I bought a 2000 Zx3 a few 00 miles ago and only got 1 key, no fob. How do I figure out if it has keyless entry / if so, how would I program a fob?

I think it was standart on zx3-zx5. If you have the door lock switches inside the car, well I think you should have it. But that's my opinion.
I had a base 2003 SPI SE sedan and I had keyless entry, so I think you have it ;)

I bought my 03 zx3 used, no fob.
It has power door locks, so I chanced it and ordered a remote fob off ebay for like $12
Programmed it like the instructions said, and it worked.
Best $12 I spent on a car

Thanks so much! I do have electronic door locks inside. Everything else is manual however (windows, trans). LOVE this little car:)

Quick question. Is there a specific fob I need to buy (2000 zx3)? Will trunk button open? Also if I get a spare key can I just get it cut or is there programming involved?

As far as the key a cut key will open the doors but, will not start the car. The ignition key has a transducer inside that the car will read a code from it its the wrong key or no key the car will disable the ignition and starting system. Its great for not getting the car stolen not so great when you lose a key ($$$$$).

Google "pats keys" and you should be able to pull up distributors who can provide both the PATS keys and the programmable remote fob, and they ought to be able to provide programming instructions for the fob and the key. Take the key to a local key kiosk in a shopping center and get the key cut. Less expensive than your dealer. GL

Crap! After reading up I need 2 keys to program my own. I only have 1 key. Ford dealer wants $35 for the key and $90 to program it!!! Help! Any idea in a workaround?

No "workarounds", keep telling myself to buy a third key B4 I loose one.....
Price Checking Dealers & Locksmiths is all I can suggest.
Some Folks who hate the system & want to use a lot of cheap keys have "bypassed" it by removing the chip from their key & taping it inside the steering column near the sensor ring around the lock. Kills off the theft prevention system so anyone can "jimmy" the lock & take the car though.... It's a "how Lucky do you feel" fix!
