2007 Focus 2.0 manual trans, what to look out for?
Just drove a 07 2.0 focus, manual trans (base model). Car seemed to drive great, no hesitation, no ticking, clutch felt great. Did not feel any shaking, and didn't see any leaks. Car had 55,000 miles on it, he did tell me it was wrecked and had front end damage, I assume the car rear ended someone as it only had bumper damage and needed the headlights replaced. Airbags did not deploy. He is asking $5450, seems reasonable? Any known problems for that year, or engine? Last Ford car I owned was a 2000 Escort, drove the car for a month before it dropped a valve (which I didnt hear any ticking before I bought it).

My 05 has gone 150k without much done other than routine maintenance- and modifications. There are some things that might've freaked out the un-knowing owners though. That would be the tumble flaps which are valves in the intake manifold. When those get old, around 100k miles or so, they start to make noises like valve noise. If you diagnose it properly, then you'll find out there is no valve noise, and the noise is coming from the intake manifold.

I wouldn't suggest that anyone believe any story by anyone selling a car without a clear title when the car has been wrecked. Ask to see the title, if it has salvage on it, you need to step away. Previously wrecked cars are like crumpled up tin cans. If you straighten one out completely, and then put it beside one that has never been crumpled up- which one do you think will crumple first? Tests have shown me enough that I'll never take a chance in one. It must have a salvage title, otherwise he would've lied about it. Most owner-sellers do lie about accidents, and used car lots will sell wrecked and rebuilt cars out of their homes pretending to be Suzie Q home-maker.

Ive had my 07 since new and have only had to replace the alternator so far (somewhere south of 60k right now.) Other than that, just normal wear items and fluids. Find out as much as you can about the title/accident. Perhaps see if you can come up with anything on a carfax.

If it was an accident free car, id say thats a pretty good price for the year/mileage.

My 07 needed an alt and a power steering pump before 40k. Any other issues were probably my fault

Was going to see if the BMV would be able to pull up any information with the VIN but they are closed today. Will find out more tomorrow, hopefully the car doesnt sell. Was the only 5spd Focus in my area worth buying, and I have looked at a lot. Has to be a manual too, can't stand automatics.

did a search on the VIN, this is what I found:

Looks to me like you better keep looking. Sorry.
