I replaced the clutch master cylinder last friday as it was leaking on the pedal.

It is still a small drip of brake fluid dripping out the bottom of the tranny where it bolts to the engine. Do slave cylinders just fail out of the blue or can I get away with a small drip for a little while? There really hasn't been a change in the reservoir level which I would have expected...maybe a very very little??? Clutch still operates fine. Going to drive it to work tomorrow and see how it goes. Extra bottle of brake fluid in the back just in case.

When you replace a leaking master cylinder, the new master cylinder starts producing higher pressures, so it's not all that surprising that the an old slave cylinder would react to the higher by leaking. On cars with an external slave cylinder you might as well replace it when you replace the master. On cars with an internal slave cylinder, and where it is a large amount of labor to pull the transmission, you replace the master cylinder and pray for the best.

In your case I'm guessing you need the slave cylinder replaced. If the leak is not bad then you may be able to drive on it for a while. In the mean time start saving your pennies for repairs. If you are not doing it yourself, start finding transmission shops you can trust and get quotes. When you pull the transmission you'll want to replace everything in there that is replaceable.

Thanks for the reply....the leak has slowed and all levels look good....resevoir is still full....also pulled the tranny fluid fill plug just to verify it wasn't overfilled and its not....I have some brake fluid in the back...going to drive it tomorrow and give it hell!

I'd say you prob. got a bit down the housing while bleeding it, & it took a while for it to all drain out.

Peek at the top to make sure there isn't any fresh fluid showing around the bleeder screw or the hose connection & you're good to go.

Fortunately it looks like a "non-problem". Just a spill you didn't know about.
