Okay, i live in Cincinnati ohio i was driving up 75 to Dayton last night and i was in 6th gear at about 70mph at about 3k rpm.. okay well i was just minding my own buisness and then all of a sudden the rpms shot up and the speedometer did to and the car like started to bog and cut out alittle and then i down shifted to 5th and stayed there for a sceond and then i went back to 6th and everything was okay and then it did it the rest of the way to dayton off and on multipul times. and sometimes it would even do it in 5th and 4th and id have to go as low as 3rd gear and then go to 4th then 5th then 6th. i have no idea what this could be? i still have a good clutch so i dont think it is that. Ecm maybe? im really lost, if anyone has any suggestions or have had this problem before please help
hahah yeah my bad im kinda freaking out about it, so i apologize. but yeah that is the jist of what was/going on.. but once i would down shift then shift back to 6th it would go away for a little bit then it would come back.
Just for clarrification the tach and spedo jumped - Did the car accelerate when this occurred? or did it just begin to run like crap? I have seen this in a 1998 honda where the main relay was going bad and intermitantly killing power to the PCM. I'd check for a loose connector at the PCM and then start checking grounds
No the ca wouldn't actually speed up when this occurred, although it would seem like it was in neutral and would just rev the motor. I work at a shop and I talked to a few of the guys and they said it could possibly be the clutch going out, and it is just free spinning when the problem happens which could potentially make the Rpms and speedo jump like that correct? I don't know how right they are?
The speed sensor is in the transmission, the clutch is before the transmission, if the clutch is slipping than the transmission will not "speed up" with the motor RPMS, because it is no longer coupled tightly to the motor.
Slipping clutch is the same as pushing the clutch pedal down.
Ps, no dash lights came on but I have noticed lately and I don't think this has anything to do with my current problem but when I'm driving through town and put it in neutral and start to slow down my idle rpms drop to about 6-700 and battery light comes on and the car will act like its going to die or it will just die. Oh and ps, I discovered at work that my CEL bulb is blown!!! ): I put a obd11 reader on it and I have a few codes. Cylinder one misfire , evap leak , bank 1 o2 sensor and this is an odd one, advanced variable camshaft timing??
Okay so my fear of it being a clutch or throw out bearing or any of that is not possible? It's probably just a sensor like that VSS or TPS? Sound more likely?
Well I have now noticed when I have the issue that I can hear like rattling it sounds like a glass jar of change being shook up. That's the best way to describe it.
