Temperature select knob stuck
Hi All,

New member, first post!

Thank you all for the wealth of info available on this site. I've picked up so much knowledge here.

I recently bought a 2002 1.6 Petrol saloon. There were a couple of little jobs that needed doing and thanks you your site I now know how...

1) Blower only works on number "4". I now know that this is probably the blower motor resistor pack. I've ordered a replacement and will fit it once it arrives. I've also ordered a new pollen filter to change out at the same time. I read that this can sometimes cause the motor to overwork and blow the resistor. I'll also remove and clean/lube the blower motor.

2) I could not find anything for this issue. The temperature select knob will only turn about 15 degrees (angle that is) from all the way to the left (cold) to slightly less cold before it gets stuck (I don't want to force it). If you imagine a clock face it will only turn from 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock.

Do I need to get in there and have a look at the temperature control cable and the temperature blend door?

Are there any guides for this?

Could it be something else, are there any known issues with this function?

Just having a search on this... could it be an alignment issue. That is, the knob is "bottoming out" prematurely and needs to be adjusted?

Hi All,

I've taken the cable off both sides (at the selector knob and underneath the drivers panel) and I can see that it is fine and turns OK.

It's the little stalk that the connector connects to under the driver's panel that won't turn.

Anyone know what I can do here? Is it possible to manually move the heat door more to the heating side? It's currently stuck on the cold side.

I suppose a picture tells a thousand words. I've taken the connector off (red arrow). The black knob (green arrow) will not turn. Anyone know what this could be?

Ford wants to sell me a new heater box for 450.00$ NOT ! Just trying to figure out a way to get that knob to turn hot-cold ! Cable broke because knob on heater box would"nt turn ! So replacing the cable assy. won"t fix the problem, even though I need a new assy. ??????? T.K.

Sounds like you either have something gamed in there or it's rusted. Cause it should turn with little effort. And it is a pain in the bum to remove. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply; Amazing what you can fix when faced with an "OVERPRICED" factory part !! The male end of a 1/4 inch ratchet will fit in the end of that control if you tear it down to the box, and will free up that flapper quickly !! Yeah !! T.K.

Temp control assy.
Tear down the cable control end down by the heater box and the male end of a 1/4 inch ratchet will fit in the end of that flapper knob and will free it up quickly !! Ford would"nt or could"nt tell me that , but wanted to sell me a new box for almost "$500.00 ! REALLY ?? quick fix cost me nothing and found another "like new" cable at the salvage yard for $5.00 T.K.
