2000-2005 focus flip key how to for $10 (no reprograming needed)

hi all i recently baught off ebay a focus flip key shell conversion and installed it today and this thing works awesome, first reason for buying it was my keyfob broke off :( sad but usual. here is how i installed the guts from a programmed key and keyfob.

flip key can be found here:
FORD FOCUS FLIP KEY
if that posting dies just search ebay for "ford focus flip key" should only cost $10

sorry if the photos are huge..

Quote:
warning! do not break of lose your immobilizer (RFID) be gentle!!!!
what you will need:
x1 programmed ford key that has a removable immobilizer (RFID)
x1 keyfob that is programmed to the vehicle
x1 flip key shell off ebay (shouldn't have to pay over $10 for this)
x1 small screwdriver set

step one:

step two: take out the immobilizer (RFID).

take the small flat-head and pry around this small area that is outlined in red

once exposed pull gently up on the case part sticking out

their you go now your immobilizer (RFID) is now out of the key
DO NOT DO NOT LOSE THIS OR BREAK IT!!!

step three: get the key cut by any lock smith or key cutting place
i got mine cut at wal-mart for free.

step four: Take apart the Key Fob
pry gently in between the two pieces of plastic preferably by the keyring area and separate.

take the motherboard out of the piece of rubber and put in the new piece of rubber that comes with the flip key shell.

step five: take apart the flip key shell

when you take out these three screws the key will spring out, that's fine just make sure you keep track of the pieces don't freak out if it falls apart i show you how to put it back together.

step six: Frankenstein time
take the immobilizer (RFID) and a small thin washer and install them as shown
Quote:
reason for the washer is as i found out the battery dosnt sit up high enough to make contact with the board once put together and wont allow for the buttons to function properly.

install battery as shown

step seven: insert board and rubber piece for the buttons

step eight: putting together the flip key
take the spring and notice that one side has some spring sticking outwards insert where shown in step six picture two the red arrow at the top.

insert the push button so it aligns with the groves and drops down it can only go in one way

as shown

put the push button while on the key down ontop of the spring in the closed position. then rotate 1 full turn counter clock wise.

then while holding the key in place install the top piece back on the unit (no pictures as my hands were full)

screw down the unit (refer to picture in step five)

now add the small ford logo over the middle screw shown in step five and your done

go outside and try all the buttons and try it in your ignition. if for some reason the car wont start and you are to afraid to do any diagnosis take the flip key apart and stick the immobilizer (RFID) back inside the main key. (reverse step two)

hope this helps i love mine a little bulky but it works awesome.

That would be quite the undertaking. For the locks an aftermarket kit, if you can find one would probably be cheaper than sourcing all the OE parts and within them in cause I think they run through the computer. You'd have to replace regulators and all to do the windows.

Ok. Got mine today. I did everything, put it altogether. Everything works except its not recognizing the RFID chip. I took it out and put it back in the original key and then it worked.
