VIN location

I bought an 03 Focus LX. It has one vin number on the dash which matches the title. The vin on the door is different. Is there another location, such as on the frame where I can check to see which vin number is correct?

Thanks!

There's a vin in the lower drivers side of the windshield (that may be the one you are saying is on the dash). Unless something is fishy, that vin will be the true vin of the car.

the VIN is also stored in the cars computer, a scanner should be able to read it... find out if you can get on the XCal3 list or see if any one else around you has one. I am not sure if the ODB2 scanners at part stores will show VIN...

Maybe since 2003, the door was replaced? The most important VIN tag is the driver's side dash/windshield location.

Yeah, sounds like a new door, so don't trust the rest of the info. on that door sticker.

Can't remember where the frame # is stamped, KNOW I've seen it, just can't remember WHERE!

Most body parts have a hidden sticker with the VIN., if they match the only swapped part is the door - NOT the VIN tag at the windshield....

most of the time when its been in an accident and the drivers door replaced, the sticker doesn't get changed due to being a royal pita.
when you request a new sticker you have to show the police report and pictures, or have someone from the dealer, proving it is beyond repair and a replacement needed for the new door. then theres the cost of a replacement which isnt much, but also the lengthy time of verification, printing, etc, and then someone from the dealer has to come with the sticker and either place it or visually verify placement. Been there and done that, took several weeks.
but you can buy a junkyard door and slap it on. the junkyard is supposed to remove the sticker, but most dont.
