I had the same code p0171 and the auto trans was shifting bad, jumping in to gear when downshifting and I found the problem was a loose band clamp on the intake between the air filter and intake right on top and easy to get to. It works fine now. Wow that could have cost a lot if I went to a transmission shop !!!

Change the oil- fill the tires - and drive it till it breaks-thats my idea cuz if you take it in for work you will pay more than the car is worth over the years.

Oh boy! I checked this hose and my hose is just pinched and very soft. I'll definitely change this out before driving the car around town.

This is an awesome thread.

I didn't read all of the pages, but for what it's worth, I had something similar happen when I had a cat go out and I had an upstream o2 sensor go out....for what it's worth. good luck.

Mine was collapsed also, got the new version with the foil looking heat shield, but I still got a po171 and a p2195 today. I think I will try disconecting the battery, I have'nt ever tried that. Also when I listen to some am radio stations I get some spark plug or plug wire noise thru the speakers, I think I'll do wires and plugs too. This is a great thread, Thanks

I just replaced the hose in 1 degree weather. I'm not sure if it made a difference. I did have to replace the stock clamp with a new hose clamp. I feel paranoid that i didnt fully seat the hose on the peg but im really anal and i psych myself out about a lot of stuff.

Also, i didn't read all 8 pages of this thread but the part number that was given on the page 2 isnt listed as a valid part number for the zetec engine past the year 2000 according to the ford parts guy. It lists the new hose covered in insulation as the correct part. I'll post the part number in a lil bit.
