Question How to change the reverse light switch?

Anyone has the experience of replacement of reverse light swith?
Mine is 2005 Ford Focus zx3, manual tranny.

Actually, my problem is the backup lights do not work but the fuse and bulbs are all good, somebody suggests me about the reverse switch. If I bring to dealer, it will cost me $150, so I decide to do it myself.

Can anyone share some pics or vidieos about it?

Thanks in advance.

Posted via FF Mobile Wiring to hatch from body (inside rubber boot) is another common failure point to check. Testing wiring with a "jumper" at the switch would ensure it`s working.

Thanks sailor. But I am not really understand what is the "jumper" as you said. Can you show me a pic? I am sorry that I am a new Focus guy. I bought it the day before yesterday.

Thanks.

Posted via FF Mobile Sorry, no picture avail. - A "jumper" is just a wire, or even a paper clip bent right that`s used to make the connection the switch does when it`s working. When you find the switch on the transmission (search how-to`s or old threads) there will be a wire or two going to it. Two wire connector, (most likely) connect between the wires and the lights should work. one wire connector, connect to ground (anything metal) and the light should work.

Here's a relevant thread. The reverse switch is on the transmission. I figured it had to be on there since I recently removed my shifter and couldn't remember disconnecting anything electrical.

I have checked all the things. There is nothing wrong. So I possitively believe the reverse switch is broken. I am seeking for the solution. Again, mine baby is 2005 Focus zx3, manual.

Many thanks.

Posted via FF MobileIf "all things tested" means the reverse lights worked with the jumper test trick, or the switch tested bad (no continuity) when the trans was in reverse, then replace the switch and it should work. Test advice is just to ensure that you don`t replace a good switch and still have a problem.....

^^ Right, once you locate the switch, if you have some wire you can jump both sides of the switch together and the reverse lights should come on.
