why when it was simply run out of fuel would you jump to the conclusion the timing belt went. thats like needing a cup of milk and buying the cow, way overboard.
first make sure there is at least 2 or more gallons of gas in it.
a car needs three things to run. fuel, air, spark
Make sure your battery is charged.
check and see if you can hear your fuel pump run when the key is turned on. if you can you know the fuses and relay are good as well as the switch in the passenger footwell. if you can't hear it, start with those items.
if fuel is good, move to ignition and check. first spark. grab a long nail, pull a wire and stick the nail in the boot and hold it appx 1/8" from a metal ground. note if its a strong or weak spark.
have spark then its time to actually disconnect the fuel line at the rail and make sure it is getting fuel there.
if so then its time to start checking fuses and relays for the injectors and such.
sometimes running them out of fuel can cause debris in the fuel filter to loosen, then when fuel is added and the pump starts again they clog for some reason. when was the last time yours was changed.
