Question Trunk won't open

I have an 04 ZX3 and the trunk won't pop open. The button inside and on the remote do not function. No click.Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting the issue? I really could care less if the button in the car works but the remote not working annoys me. Thanks!

Does it open with the key? If it does, you obviously have an electrical problem. The hatch-backs are plagued with wire breakage in the harness that runs from the body to the hatch.

That's the harness section you see with the hatch open......pull the rubber seals loose and take a look. Do that right after you check all the fuses.

Ok, we did as you suggested and the wires were in fact corroded. We repaired them and now it works 30% of the time. You can hear it click everytime I hit the button but I am wondering if the actual latching mechanism isn't also damaged causing it to not always release. I am thinking about replacing it unless you think it could be something else? If so any idea where I can acquire one other than the dealer for a reasonable price?

Thank you for the quick responses :D

maybe the latching system were a bit loosen, try to tight it and then try to open it ( give it some grease to the latch, it will easy up the opening). if don´t work change the system.

The latch could be sticking.....soak it in penetrating oil rather than grease. It might free up if it isn't too badly stuck.
